In this article, we’re looking at bible verses about self-worth, but first we need to understand what self-worth is and why it’s important to our quality of life. Self-worth is another term for self-esteem, which is your confidence in your abilities and talents. It can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but that’s a quick overview.
As Christians, we’re a part of the Kingdom of God, and we are all his children. It’s our job to respect ourselves as we would respect the Lord. We are God’s creation, so we should all have a strong sense of self-worth in knowing that we are saved through our belief in Jesus Christ.
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
God understands us, has plans for us, and always leads us in the right direction, so it’s our job to trust Him and realize that the feelings we have are Earthly feelings, but the Kingdom of God is all-powerful, and we have no reason to feel self-conscious or anxious about ourselves.
Always remember that God created us in his image, so what could we possibly fear?
Now, let’s take a look at some bible verses about self-worth.
What the Bible Says About Self Worth: For Women
Psalm 139:13-15 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the Earth.
- In this verse, we’re speaking to God, telling the Lord how amazing He has made us. This is an important verse for all of us who feel the lack of self confidence from time to time.
Hebrews 13:5 ESV
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
- In the age of social media, we pay so much attention to what everyone else is doing, it’s easy to feel defeated or that you’re not contributing as much. But God says, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So you don’t have to worry so much about money, God will take care of you.
Colossians 3:12-14 ESV
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
- Sometimes the best way to forgive someone is to put yourself in their shoes to understand why they did what they did. Once you do that, it’s easier to relate to them and feel comfortable in your own skin as well.
Matthew 11:28-30 ESV
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
- When all fails, what should we do? When everything seems to be going wrong and we can barely muster up the courage to get off the couch, what do we do? We lean on the Lord. We rest our heads on his shoulder and let him take the burden away. As Christians, we are blessed with the ability to be able to do this when no one else can.
1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
- While this verse is written from a man’s perspective, it works quite well for women as well. The Lord doesn’t care what you weigh, how you dress, or what you look like because you’re beautiful to Him. What he cares about is your spirit and your heart.

1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
- God only gives us as much as we can handle and there are no mistakes that you could make that haven’t been made before.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
- We love this one because God is telling us: “Do not worry about these Earthly matters, they are unimportant.” You have nothing to worry about when God is in the driver’s seat.
Romans 5:8 ESV
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- This verse alone should be enough. God shows his love for us every single day even though we are sinners and we constantly make mistakes. He died for us, He loves us, and He always will. Repeating this verse whenever you’re feeling down will fill you with warmth and all the confidence you need.
