With 30+ years of experience, I've boldly adopted the immodest title, Supreme Word Goddess of the Universe. If you don’t find this incredibly amusing, we probably won't be working together.

Strategic Marketing Communications

Maybe you've defined your audience(s), your message(s), and chosen communications tools. Maybe not. In either case, I can help.

I combine practical experience with sociological training to clarify who you really want to reach and how to best reach them. You end up with a plan that's nuanced and durable, flexible enough to account for sudden market shifts. I'm especially keen on using new media.

"Without counsel, plans go wrong..."

Proverbs 5:22

Writing

I translate complex healthcare jargon into easy-to-grasp language. Over the years, I've written newsletters and websites for physicians, patients, and caregivers. I've also managed to make financial services seem friendly. One gig involved rewriting all direct-to-consumer materials so "Dear Valued Client" seemed authentic.

Even the Roman Catholic church hired me to communicate church and faith more clearly. But so did the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health during the 1990s. This factoid once incited a "concerned" Catholic to question my faith. I blame my ability to pray the Rosary and chant japa mantra on my multiple spirituality disorder. I discuss this in my published books.

Editing

Specializing in line editing and rewrite, I reconfigure text so it flows like the writer intended. I love tidying up other copywriters and nonfiction authors. My editing career started at Tiger Tales at Tenafly Junior High and continued during top positions at national and regional magazines.

Editorial Services for Nonfiction Authors include:

  •  Book proposals that do not skimp on the all-important competitive market analysis.
  • Developmental and line editing.
  • Counsel about choosing and retaining a literary agent.
  • Consultation about the relative merits of publishing options because traditional publishing may simply not be for you and your fine work.

Full disclosure: A freelance associate with Veritas Literary Agency, I work with Christian, especially Catholic, writers committed to elevating the quality of discourse about faith, are extremely witty or by the grace of God, both.

Terms of Engagement

Call me an independent contractor, a consultant, or a freelancer, it means I work from my home office. There, I concentrate on getting your project done on or before deadline instead of complaining about your brutal fluorescent lighting.

Contact me when:

  • all attempts at marketing communications have failed.
  • no one in-house has time or talent to write or edit.
  • you've downsized a bit too much and want to avoid hiring staff.
  • you want a fresh point-of-view from a grownup.
