Never wanted to write books...until my first one was published. Now I love writing books, except when I'm actually writing one and then I hate it...but love it anyway. If you're an author, this craziness will make perfect sense.

The Catholic Home:
Celebrations and Traditions for Holidays, Feast Days, and Every Day (Doubleday)
By the time Deliberate Acts of Kindness was published, I'd confessed my conversion to Roman Catholicism to my Jewish mother. I'd also developed a slew opinions about how today's Catholics might take a scroll from their/our Jewish heritage.
What is Catholic culture and identity? How does it support faith practice? What ought Catholics be doing at home (aka, the domestic church) after being dismissed from Mass? Read my book. The paperback edition, please. It has new content. Invite me to speak at your parish!

Come to the Table: A Catholic Passover Seder for Holy Week (Plowshares)
This labor of love and devotion took seven years to write. I wanted to create a seder celebration that honored the Jewish holiday of Passover while illuminating the Jewish roots of Eucharist.
Since publication, Come to the Table has received rave reviews and been adopted for parish and home use throughout North America. More information and an opportunity to look inside the book is available at the Plowshares Publishing website. |

Deliberate
Acts of Kindness:
Service as a Spiritual Practice
(Image/Doubleday)
I'm fascinated by social groups, have traipsed the spiritual path since my 20's, and am an aging Baby Boomer (hoping Social Security doesn't go bankrupt).
The factors led me to wondering about the Next Big Thing for my generation of malcontents and navel-gazers. Figuring that volunteering would be it, I wrote Deliberate Acts of Kindness to zoom in on the practical and spiritual nature of serving others.

Staying Sober:
Tips for Working a Twelve Step Program of Recovery
(Hazelden, 1999)
Why did I write this Staying Sober? I thought Cconference-approved literature was boring, dated, and grim. I wanted to offer healthier, updated tips to people in recovery...in a much more entertaining format. Hazelden agreed to let me. Rumor has it that the Betty Ford Clinic stocks my book in its store.

I have a few things to say about
observing Lent.
And about observing Advent.
More about faith practice and etiquette in my Faith & Family Magazine columns.
